Hi, I’m Ren!

Stories are magic. They transport us to a different place and time where rules of nature might not apply. Logic may be thrown out the window replaced by why nots and what ifs. They can give us hope or help us to forget.

Henry David Thoreau said “Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other’s eyes for an instant?” Stories help a child to understand empathy. They can break down bias and help to understand the importance of being inclusive. Yes, stories are a very strong type of magic.

I spent a few years traveling to different schools in my area sharing stories with thousands of students. Each time I walked away in awe of their reactions and their enthusiasm for spoken word. They melted into the stories and their imaginations ran wild. Their bodies would slowly inch towards me as the story line unfolded. The looks of anticipation showed on their beautiful faces. You could have heard a pin drop as they quietly wait for the next line. Images weren’t needed as their own imaginations took flight and filled in any blanks. They didn’t even mind my horrible accents!

I consider myself to be lucky landing here at The Imagination Cottage. It is a culmination of all of my loves, interests, and hobbies.

Welcome, friends. I look forward to our time together.
